FY 2024 Sewer Cleaning & Televising Project

The City recently awarded the FY 2024 Sewer Cleaning & Televising Project to Taplin Group, LLC out of Kalamazoo, MI.  This project will consist of cleaning then televising select sanitary sewers within area 1, as indicated on the accompanying map. Sewers selected for this project are those within area 1 that were not cleaned and televised as part of the SAW Grant effort in 2016-2017.  Beyond routine maintenance, this project provides crucial insights into the condition of the sewer pipes, empowering City staff to make well-informed decisions for future maintenance and replacement endeavors.

Work is expected to start the week of March 4 and will be completed by June 19. While the work is active, there will be minor disruptions to traffic in the immediate area of the work.  Crews will use manholes along the designated sewers for access to perform both cleaning and televising operations.  Typically this means for a short duration there will be a vac-truck and a televising truck parked in the roadway directly adjacent to manholes.  Consequently, the roadway might be narrowed or a lane closure may be in effect for the duration of the work, usually lasting 2-6 hours. We appreciate your caution and cooperation when traveling through these work areas.

Cleaning activities have the potential to cause a vacuum in the sewer which can suck water out of traps in plumbing which may cause a strong smell of sewage in a home.  If you experience this please run water from all faucets to refill the traps.
