Tree Trimming/Removal

The City of St. Joseph manages all city Right-of-Way (street), Park and public space trees by practicing an annual Tree Trimming and Removal Program.  This program is divided into two parts described as "Block Trimming" and "City Trimming/Removal."

Block Trimming

Once a year the City of St. Joseph selects specific sections of the city to be systematically pruned in order to maintain required height and line-of-sight clearances over city streets and sidewalks.  This practice also helps to identify any potential tree hazards or needs for removal while positively promoting the overall aesthetics of the community.  Current and previous block trimming maps can be found in the supporting documents viewed here.

City Trimming/Removal

The City of St. Joseph strives to maintain both the safety and beauty of the community.  Should a right-of-way tree, or part of the tree, become dead, dying or diseased it is added to the city's trimming and removal list.  The vast majority of trims and removals will typically take place in the Fall, and then again in the Spring on an as-needed basis.  City residents with right-of-way tree concerns adjacent to their property may contact the Department of Public Works using the online request below or by calling 269-983-6341.  An authorized representative of the city will come out to inspect the tree and decide if it meets the criteria to be added to the city's trimming and removal list.
