2025 Sewer Rehabilitation Projects

The City recently awarded the 2025 Sewer Rehabilitation Project Waste Recovery Systems out of Wyoming, MI. This project is being undertaken to rehabilitate several sanitary sewer lines throughout the City of St. Joseph by installing a Cured-in-Place Pipe (CIPP). CIPP installation is a trenchless rehabilitation meaning there will not be any excavations needed to complete this work. CIPP installation works by inserting a resin impregnated felt liner into the sewer line through a manhole then using hot water or steam to cure the resin.  Once the curing process is completed, the CIPP is no longer reliant on the existing sewer for strength and will now be the active sewer.  The City has completed CIPP rehabilitation on sewers in the past and found this type of rehabilitation to be a cost effective and durable.  CIPP rehab also provides the added benefit of eliminating joints where it is installed.  This prevents infiltration of groundwater as well as roots providing a reliable and lower maintenance sewer.

Homes that are serviced by the sewers to be rehabilitated will be temporarily blocked while the CIPP is being installed. This typically lasts 2-6 hours during which we ask that you do not use water as it could result in a backup.  Door hangers will be provided by the contractor prior to the work starting to notify of the date of the rehab and what to expect.

This project is expected to in late July or August.  A more detailed schedule will be posted in this web page once the City receives it from Waste Recovery Systems.
