Upcoming Concerts
Be sure to join the St. Joseph Municipal Band Sunday August 10 when the theme for the concert will be “Iconic Music of the 1970s”. Selections will include a wide variety of music running the gamut from movies to the Broadway stage to the world of rock, funk and disco music. Among the titles being performed will be medlies of music from "Star Wars" and from the Broadway show "A Chorus Line", and themes from the "The Muppet Show" and the movie "Jaws".
The Municipal Band's concert on Sunday August 17 will feature guest soloist Joshua Wagner on trumpet. Joshua is Director of Jazz Bands, Instructor of Applied Trumpet, and Instructor of Music Appreciation at Northwestern Michigan College in Traverse City, MI. The Municipal Band trumpet section will also be spotlighted.
On Sunday August 24 the Municipal Band will present "A Summer Scare-tacular", the band's first annual Halloween in August concert with selections to help our audience ease into the upcoming Halloween season. These will include themes from the movie "Beetlejuice", themes from the Batman series of films and TV shows, as well the theme from the movie "Halloween".
The Municipal Band performs its first of two Labor Day weekend concerts on Sunday August 31. Featured will be a trombone solo by Gary Cooper, trombone section leader for the St. Joseph Municipal Band. Also from the trombone section will be Alan Mitchell guest conducting two selections. Gary has been performing with the Municipal Band for over 45 seasons. Also a long-time member of the Municipal Band, Alan is the Director of Bands Emeritus at Andrews University.
The Municipal Band's farewell concert for the 2025 season takes place on Labor Day (September 1), Joining the Municipal Band will be vocalists (and perennial audience favorites) Beth Gray-Roll and Jeff Whittaker.
The St. Joseph Municipal Jazz Band will be performing on Friday August 15 as a part of the Friday Night Concert Series sponsored by St. Joseph Today. Guest soloists (and audience favorites) will be vocalists Andrew Fisher and Lisa Chilton, as well as Joshua Wagner on trumpet.
All concerts happen at the John E.N. Howard Bandshell and begin at 7:00pm. Admission is always free.
