Downtown Parking Program Updates: June 5, 2025

As part of the Commission's commitment to be flexible and make rapid changes as part of the Downtown Parking Program implementation, the St. Joseph Commission held a special meeting at 12:30 today to make a few changes to our Downtown Parking Program based on resident feedback:

All full-time residents of the City of St. Joseph are now eligible for free parking in any City-owned lot on the west side of downtown. In order to receive free lot parking, City residents must submit an application online or in person to register their vehicles' license plate in the system. Our parking system is entirely digital and registered individuals will not receive a physical pass.

Additionally, all paid parking hours on the west side of Main Street are reduced and will now be active from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. Moving forward, the paid parking season has been shortened to the Friday before Memorial Day and ending Labor Day. On-street parking on the east side of Ship, Broad, and Church Streets remains free all day. All changes are effective immediately, and signage will be updated accordingly as materials arrive. For the latest ordinance information and guidelines, please refer to the City website for accurate information.

These changes are effective immediately. Our website will have the resident application form launched shortly.

The City of St. Joseph continues to hear business owner and residential feedback as we make adjustments to the program. The City is committed to solving downtown congestion and parking scarcity on the west side of Main Street while remaining sensitive to the needs of our downtown.
