How to Schedule Cross Connection Inspection

Every residence in the City of St. Joseph will require an inspection mandated by the state. City of St. Joseph Water Service Crews will inspect the outside and inside of each home. Inspectors are looking to ensure all of your water sources have proper working backflow prevention systems.  Homeowners must be home for the inspection, because workers need access to the front, backyard and inside the home. Inspections will also take about 10 to 15 minutes. 

Hose Bibb Vacuum Breaker

It is important that all of the outside faucets have a Hose Bibb Vacuum Breaker installed prior to the inspection.  This small piece of equipment can be purchased at hardware stores and is easily installed.

Scheduling the Cross Connection Inspection is very easy when the following steps are completed:

1. Complete the Water Backflow Questionnaire;
2. Return the completed Water Backflow Questionnaire
   1. Email to backflow@sjcity.com 
   2. Mail or deliver to the City - Water Department, ATTN: Water Backflow, 700 Broad Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085
3. Call (269)983-6341 to schedule an inspection.  The homeowner will need to be at home when the inspection is completed as the inspection crew will need access to the both the front and rear yards along with the interior of the home.
