Hiring: Parks and recreation Manager 03-2026

The City of St. Joseph is seeking a Parks and Recreation Manager to develop and oversee recreation programming for residents of all ages and manage operations of the John and Dede Howard Ice Arena. This position plans and supervises recreation programs, coordinates community events, oversees Ice Arena scheduling and operations, and supervises part-time, seasonal, and contract recreation staff.

The Parks and Recreation Manager works closely with community organizations, volunteers, and City departments to support recreational opportunities and ensure City facilities are operated safely and efficiently.

Compensation: Salary Range $58,000 - $63,000 DOQ. The City also offers an excellent municipal benefits package, including a defined benefit retirement plan.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management or related field.
  • Three or more years of recreation programming or related experience.
  • Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • First Aid/CPR certification preferred; professional parks or ice arena certifications desirable.

Requirements

  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.
  • Ability to pass a background check and pre-employment screening.
