Name Change
Requests to update or remove a name from City of St. Joseph assessing and tax records due to marriage, divorce, or death must be submitted in writing to the Assessing Office along with appropriate supporting documentation.
If you recently married and wish to change your name on City records, please submit a written request along with a copy of your marriage license and/or a copy of your driver’s license or state-issued identification reflecting your new name. Upon receipt and review, the Assessing Office will update the City’s assessing and tax records accordingly.
If an individual listed on the property record is deceased and you wish to have their name removed from City records, please submit a written request along with a copy of the death certificate. Upon receipt and review, the Assessing Office will update the City’s assessing and tax records accordingly.
For any other name change requests, please contact the Assessing Office directly for guidance.
Please note that updates made to City assessing and tax records do not constitute a legal change of ownership and do not alter the property deed. Any legal changes to property ownership must be recorded with the Berrien County Register of Deeds Office, located at 701 Main Street, St. Joseph, MI 49085.
