Construction Board of Appeals and Property Maintenance Board of Appeals

In the State of Michigan all governmental bodies follow the same state wide Building Code. Sections 125.1514 and 125.1515 of the State Construction Code allows for specific variances from the code under certain conditions.  The responsibility of the Board is to:

  1. Act on requests in accordance with Section 125.1515 of the State Construction Code;
  2. Considered appeals and issues involving the administration and enforcement of the State of Michigan Construction Codes; and
  3. May review structures that are considered to be unsafe and can provide recommendations to the City Commission for corrective action.

The Construction Board of Appeals meets on as needed. Meetings are held in the City Commission Chambers in City Hall, 700 Broad St.

The Property Maintenance Board of Appeals duties fall under the International Property Maintenance Code which the city has adopted.  The Board’s duties include:

  1. Acting on property owner requests as they relate to the administrative actions taken by the City in its administration of the International Property Maintenance Code.

The Property Maintenance Board of Appeals meets on the fourth Thursday of the month during the months of January through October excluding September. Meetings are held in the City Commission Chambers, City Hall, 700 Broad Street.
