Fence Regulations and Application

Fraud Alert: The City of St. Joseph has been notified of several fraudulent invoices pretending to be from City departments requesting payment via wire transfer. This is a scam—do not respond. If you receive any questionable communications from the City requesting payment, please call City Hall at 269-983-5541 prior to sending money.

Permits are required for the construction of fencing on all properties in the City. If repairing an existing fence, please contact the Building Inspection Department to determine if a permit is required.

Only complete Fence applications with the required site plan and the $40 application fee will be processed. Please allow 7 days for processing and issuance of a permit. No work can start until the permit has been received. Working without a permit will increase costs and delay the project.
