Recreational Vehicles and Similar Equipment

On March 4, 2024, the City Commission re-adopted the regulations found in the Zoning Ordinance associated with the parking or storage of airplanes, boats, trailers, off-road recreational vehicles, recreational vehicles (campers), and other similar equipment.  A definition of recreational vehicles was created, conflicts between Chapter 17 of the Code of Ordinances and the Zoning Ordinance were resolved and the language was reorganized to be more user-friendly.  This approval by the City Commission was made after the Planning Commission studied the existing regulations and concluded no new regulations were necessary, but existing conflicts needed to be addressed and the language needed to be user-friendly.

Below is the "Guide to Parking and Storage of Recreational Vehicles and Similar Equipment" which provides an overview of the regulations that were readopted on March 4, 2024.  In addition, the two adopting ordinances can also be reviewed as the language has not yet been codified into the Code of Ordinances.

Beginning the week of March 18, 2024, the Code Enforcement Officer will begin enforcement of the regulations.  Properties having improperly parked or stored equipment on their property will receive the "Guide to Parking and Storage of Recreational Vehicles and Similar Equipment" along with a brief statement of why the equipment is parked or stored improperly.  If no action is taken a formal enforcement letter will be sent the following week.

Please contact the Inspection Department at 269.983.1212 to speak to the Code Enforcement Officer or the Community Development Director if you have additional questions or concerns.  Concerns about a specific property should be directed to the Code Enforcement Officer.
