Napier Resurfacing Update

Posted Date: 8/28/2012

August 28, 2012 Update: Paving is on schedule for tomorrow.  Properties with driveways on Napier should have received a door hanger notice this afternoon  The Contractor has informed us that they intend to complete both the leveling course (1st layer) and the final course (top layer) of paving tomorrow.  The goal remains to open Napier Avenue to two-way traffic by the middle of the afternoon on Friday.

August 22nd Update:  Paving schedule includes completeion by August 31st and opened up to traffic, weather dependent.

August 3, 2012 Update Here is what to expect in the coming week on the Napier Resurfacing Project. Peters (Peters) Construction has completed underground work on north lane of Napier and therefore will be shifting westbound traffic to allow work on the south lane. The eastbound detour route will remain the same.

Peters plans to pave the first layer (leveling course) of asphalt on the north lane Monday, shift westbound Napier traffic to this lane on Tuesday and mill the existing asphalt pavement on the south side of the road on Wednesday. Storm sewer work is scheduled to follow on Thursday and Friday.

A water shut off will be necessary the week of August 13th.

Properties on Thayer Drive and Willa Drive, between Napier Avenue and Van Brunt Avenue, are expected to be impacted by the closure. The specific date has not been determined and will be communicated next week by means of door hanger notices. Problems with valve operation during the water shutdown on Thursday, July 21st resulted in an expansion of the shutdown area and many residents received notice just as, or immediately, after the shutdown occurred. If you were inconvenienced by this event, we do apologize. In order to reduce the potential for a similar event, Department of Public Works and Services crews will test the valves/isolation effectiveness this coming Wednesday evening (August 8th) starting around midnight. Properties located on the blocks described above will experience a water service interruption on the order of 20 minutes in duration. We recommend that you flush your water first thing on Thursday morning to clear the line of any sediment/discoloration that may result from this activity.

Thank you for your continued patience with the construction and please feel free to contact Corey Kandow, Abonmarche Project Engineer (269-927-2295 ext. 112) or me with concerns or questions.

####################

With the weather fully cooperating, the Napier Avenue project contractor is ahead of schedule.  Thus, starting Thursday, July 19, 2012, eastbound traffic will be detoured to Botham Avenue to Morton Avenue to Langley Avenue until further notice. Westbound traffic will be maintained on Napier Avenue.  The full public notice is listed under City Departments, City Engineer if you wish to read the notice in its entirety.
