The primary mission of the Planning and Zoning Department is to administer the Zoning Ordinance by working with the property owners and developers to ensure their building plans will meet local ordinances. This involves regular contact with the general public on a daily basis and involves processing of applications for variances, special use permits, site plan reviews and other development issues. This department is also responsible for the administration of the groundwater ordinance and regulation of flood plain areas.

Applicants must speak with zoning staff before application forms may be filed. Complex projects may also require a pre-application meeting with staff.
