High Water Bills

Leaks are usually the primary cause of higher than normal water bills. A continuous leak from a 1/16 inch hole can waste as much as 74,000 cubic feet (740 billing units) of water over a three (3) month period. This translates to an additional $790 for a quarterly water bill. These high bills can be brought under control if residents regularly maintain the plumbing in their homes. Residents can also contact the water department and request assistance in checking for leaks.

If a resident has an unusually high or low usage in a given quarter, the resident may request that their meter be re-read and/or tested. If the test determines that the water meter is over registering the water department will replace the meter and adjust the current bill. If the meter was misread, the current bill will be adjusted.

If you have any questions about these topics, please contact the City and we will be glad to help you.
