The director performs community development and economic development work in support of City objectives. Works under the general supervision of the City Manager. The mission of Community Development is to improve the quality of life in St. Joseph.

Responsibilities, essential duties and functions include:

• Develops and implements community improvement and economic development plans, either independently or in cooperation with governmental and/or non- governmental organizations.
  
  
• Serves as primary staff contact for assembling information needed for new City Master Plan, under the direction of the City Manager.
  
  
• Develops and implements housing grant/loan/redevelopment programs to encourage the elimination of non-conforming uses in R-1 single family residential districts.
  
  
• Responds to or coordinates response to citizen requests and complaints.
  
  
• Researches and writes grants on behalf of the City.
  
  
• Provides general administrative support of City operations.
