Looking for your favorite horse.

Fifty-three carousel horses are prancing along our streets once again. Come take a closer look. Whether it’s your first or 100th time walking around our Lake Michigan beach town — you’ll see something new, something wonderful, in every artist’s design. "Horses on the Beach" runs from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Monday. Then on September 24, 2005 you’ll have an opportunity to bring one home at our end-of-the-exhibit auction (see details below).

Inspired by the Silver Beach carousel, each horse tells a story about the people, events and rich culture that shapes this centuries-old, yet effervescently young community.

With names such as Stirrup Minds, Pony Expresso and Night Mare on Elm Street, these painted ponies lead you laughing up our streets and down to a sandy stretch Parents Magazine lists as one of the top 10 family beaches in the nation! Most of the horses are within an easy stroll of each other in downtown. The remaining horses are a short car ride from the heart of the city. A free walking tour map with commemorative photographs of each of the horses is available from the St. Joseph Welcome Center located at the corner of Ship & State Streets.

You can take your favorite horse home at the end of the exhibit! Either buy the horse directly (forms are available at the St. Joseph Welcome Center or make the highest bid on the horses available at our:
